Arizona Trial Update

The attorney for one of the females involved in the fatal hit-and-run accident in Arizona claimed discrimination against his client because of her Arab descent. That claim came after the county attorney requested that her passport be held by the court.
Three Initial Pretrial Conferences are scheduled for 11/10 and 11/14.

mcarabian..you're welcome :)

forzaq8..It seems like a maneuver by the defence attorney. He might use it in the actual trial, IF the case makes it to trial. I get the feeling a plea bargain is imminent! Besides, that woman has dual citizenship and her American passport is not confiscated.

q8i girl..I'm glad you're enjoying the news :)

Would someone facing bias and discrimination ask to "PRECLUDE ELECTRONIC AND OR PHOTOGRAPHIC COURTROOM COVERAGE OF JUDICIAL PROCEEDINGS"? I wonder why...some food for thought!

q8i girl..It seems you are not understanding what is being said. I was referring to a motion filed on behalf of the defendants on the 10th of November. These are facts and not fabrications, unless the Superior Court of Arizona- Maricopa County is lying. But I don't blame you either for being defensive. Who wouldn't be so defensive when they're facing jail time? ;) I think enough has been said about this. Now go live your life as a real woman :) P.S. if you don't like what you read please feel free not to visit again :)

q8i girl..Happy holidays to you too. I hope Santa makes jail-visits. I wonder why you are so defensive. You keep coming back to the camera issue. It seems you do not understand this: A motion was filed by the defence to get rid of the cameras but the Judge denied it. The comment in THIS SECTION is my opinion. As for the news, nothing could have been more true, and I can back up every word with definite proof. So drop it please. As for what you said in your last comment, I will not go to such low levels of indignity to reply. I thought about deleting your post, but thought better. Let the world listen to the real you. Let the world laugh at you. Sometimes, it is better to be quiet. Finally, if I am as you say I am, why would you be so interested in coming, months after the story was first published, to comment? Did your lawyer tell you it's ok to do this now? Just take it easy. This is not the only place where these stories were published. If my goal was to be vindictive, and hateful, as you claim, why did I NOT ALLOW your name and the other woman's name to be published in any news, or comments, on this blog? Just think before you talk :)انما الامم بالاخلاق ما بقيت فإن هم ذهبت اخلاقهم ذهبوا

I killed a man and i got away with it!

Many of you might hate what I’m about to say or disagree with me but frankly i don’t care you’re entitled to your opinion as i am entitled to mine. Now some of you have heard of the 2 Kuwaiti students who killed a man in Arizona on a DUI charge back in September 2005 the reason I’ve bringing this up is because 2 weeks ago as i was talking to mom she mentioned that one of the girls is back home in Kuwait and the case was dropped because they found out the victim, Todd DeGain (may he rest in peace), was taking drugs, in other words she was set free! i told my mom i doubt this was true but she insisted that the girl’s family were stating this all over Kuwait, i thought to myself okay that’s a typical reaction not that i agree with it.

What’s disturbing is what i read in an article just 10 minutes ago, it turned out that Muneerah the girl who hit Todd first is indeed back in Kuwait and she missed her court date yesterday so you could say she ran, what angered me most is that next week or so (according to my mom’s friend who is related to them) Mueerah’s family is making a big party to shut people up and to show that nothing had happened! is this the level we Kuwaitis have reached? is human life worth nothing to us? I’ve read a lot of comments who defended the girls and said they were not guilty then why run? what kind of message are we sending to others? that it’s okay not to abide by the laws in foreign countries even if i kill someone because at the end I’m a Kuwaiti and could get away with it! how could someone party and laugh knowing that she killed an innocent man and made his son fatherless?

ASU student accused in hit-and-run on the run

By 3TV and azfamily.com staff

She is an Arizona State University student accused of leaving the scene of a hit-and-run last September that killed a Mesa man.

And the 23-year-old is nowhere to be found.

The victim’s father said he is angry but not surprised that the young woman is on the lam.

Glen DeGain was in court yesterday - the same day Muneerah Ali Al-Tarrah was supposed to show up for a status conference.

But she didn’t.

Degain said the first thing that ran through his mind was I told you so.

“It’s not a blow to me. It’s not even a surprise to me,” he said.

A frustrated DeGain is talking about something he knew in his heart was a matter of time.

“The indicators here were very strong that this person was a high probability risk,” he said, referring to Al-Tarrah, who is accused of running over DeGain’s oldest son, Todd, while he crossed the road on a motorized scooter near Alma School and Baseline roads last September.

Al-Tarrah and her 19-year-old friend Reem Ahmad Bishara, who was following Al-Tarrah in a Mustang, reportedly left the scene and were arrested about a mile away by an off-duty Mesa cop.

Both had been drinking and were charged with leaving the scene of a fatal collision and DUI. Al-Tarrah was booked on extreme DUI.

She was seen in court video with her attorney, David Cantor, who assured the judge that his client, who has dual American and Kuwaiti citizenship, was not a flight risk.

“Her family is well respected. She attended on a full academic scholarship here at ASU,” he said.

Yesterday, DeGain’s biggest fear came true after Al-Tarrah failed to appear in court for a status conference hearing. DeGain was there.

“It was revealed in the courtroom that she has not reported as a condition of her release. No one has heard from her in quite some time,” he said.

Al-Tarrah’s attorney said over the phone that he was shocked that his client had not showed up and that the last he heard from her was in mid-December.

And because she is now on the run, he has filed a motion to remove himself from the case.

“I think he’s doing the same thing,” DeGain said. “He is not showing the same kind of behavior.”

She has since moved out of her Tempe apartment.

The judge issued an arrest warrant and doubled Al-Tarrah’s bond to $300,000, but DeGain said it’s a little too late and he doubts he’ll ever see justice.

“I’ll never see my son again. I miss him so much,” he said.

Al-Tarrah’s trial is scheduled to begin in a few weeks. Nobody knows if she’ll show up but DeGain will be there.

As for Bishara, according to a Superior Court spokesman, she has been cooperating so far and is scheduled to appear in court this Friday.
